PRESTON RIDGE TRAIL PLANTINGS MUST BE APPROVED

Perhaps you have noticed the many beautiful plantings on the Preston Ridge Trail.  They are indeed lovely, but have been carefully designed to be both attractive AND suitable for a utility easement.

Unfortunately, some folks are planting things on the trail without  permission from the City of Dallas or ONCOR. You may not know that there is a Master Plan for the beautification of the trail. The Master Plan has been constructed in a joint effort between the Friends of the Preston Ridge Trail, the City of Dallas , and ONCOR. Plants that are not a part of this master plan may be species that are not suitable for a utility easement. It has turned out that quite a few of the unauthorized plantings are NOT suitable.

We call these "renegade plantings" because they were done without prior approval from any of the above three entities.  PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE PLANTINGS WILL BE REMOVED IF THEY ARE NOT APPROVED BY ONCOR

The communication of this to all area residents is very important. Please publish this article in your HOA's next newsletter, and/or e-mail to your residents. Our cooperation with ONCOR has resulted in a beautiful trail, and we do not want to put this partnership at risk. Future plantings along the trail depend on a good working relationship with both the City of Dallas and ONCOR.

The next major planting events need your involvement. They are scheduled for November 2009 and November 2010. The November 2009 planting is the planned date for the stretch from Davenport to Campbell Green. The City of Dallas will help with planting once we have organized a group to handle watering. Call Rod Scales 972-679-8359 who will put you in touch with the neighborhood person for each area that is doing the organizing for their stretch of the trail. These groups are in formation and need volunteers.

Thank you for your assistance.

New ramp puts “Stonehenge” nickname to rest

New ramp connecting eastbound Keller Springs to Southbound Preston Road Now Open . . .

Ramp from Keller Springs Road to the southbound lane
of Preston Road is now open

Council members Ron Natinsky (District 12) and Linda Koop (District 11) were joined by officials from Dallas County and the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) to cut the ribbon on a new ramp connecting eastbound Keller Springs Road to southbound Preston Road. The ceremony was held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 5th.  The new $3.5 million ramp which improves safety and congestion issues at the Preston/Westgrove/Keller Springs interchange was funded with 20 percent state funds and 80 percent federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality funds.

Construction for the project began in November 2005 and took two and a half years to complete. Construction delays resulted in a redesign process, and the large columns stood in place for several months, causing residents to nickname the project “Stonehenge;” a reference to the prehistoric ruins surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones in the English countryside.

The new ramp provides a direct connection for eastbound Keller Springs Road motorists with a southbound Preston Road destination. Previously, motorists had to travel north via the two-way connection between Westgrove Drive and Keller Springs and then make a u-turn at Westgrove to proceed southbound on Preston Road.

Phase II for the Preston/Westgrove/Keller Springs interchange includes additional improvements to provide better access for the area and further reduce delays.  Construction on those improvements is expected to begin in early 2009.

A short video of the ramp opening is included below. The video requires Windows Media Player to be installed on you computer and your internet browser must be setup to allow Active-X controls to be run. The Active-X control is what is used to stop, start, and control the Windows Media Player.

The video is a 2.39MB file; 1:06 minutes in length. To view the video, click on the play button. To download the video and play it later, click here.
